Artist Biography For War Of Destruction

War Of Destruction Was Formed By Guitarist Dan "Donny" Sørensen Vocalist Hans Simonsen Bassist Jan "Key" Hansen And Drummer Steen Thomsen In The Summer Of 1981 In Århus Denmark The Main Inspiration Being Discharge. A Few Weeks After Forming They Decided To Release A Tape Which Was Followed By Two More A Year Later As An Effort To Raise Money For Their First Vinyl Record. Already During The First Years War Of Destruction Played A Lot Of Gigs All Over Denmark And In '83 They Recorded Several Tracks For A 7" EP. It Was Released On Their Own Spån Records The Idea Behind The Label Being To Have The Total Control Over Their Releases. It Sold Out Quickly Most Of It In Denmark Germany England USA Sweden Finland And Also Poland Where They Gained A Lot Of Fans At That Time. In The Summer Of The Same Year 4 Additional Tracks Were Recorded For A 8 Band Compilation LP All Connected To The "Opgang 2" Youth Club The Place They Also Used To Rehearse In. They Kept Playing All Over Denmark Becoming The Most Popular Hardcore Band In Their Country And On Two Different Occasions They Even Traveled To Germany For Playing Some Shows. In 1984 They Recorded Three Tracks For Two Different Danish Compilation Records Noget På Dansk And Complications And In The Autumn Of Of The Same Year They Recorded The De Dødes Hvisken "Whispers Of The Dead" 12" EP Probably Their Most Known Release. It's A Great Record That Easily Stands In The Same League As The Best From Their More Prolific Neighbor Scene Sweden. The Sound Has The Classic Scandinavian D-Beat Without Being Ridiculous Clones. Still The Release Caused Their Label To Go Bankrupt As They Got Ripped Off By Many Distributors Just After It Was Released In April 1985. But The Financial Problems Didn't Stop The Band And In Fact They Played Numerous Shows During That Year. In March 1986 War Of Destruction Recorded Three Tracks For The Danish/ German Compilation LP Sauerkraut Smørrebrød Along With Six Other Tracks In A Different Vein. The Same Year They Also Played The 5th "Monody" Punk Festival In Århus A Two-Day Festival With 20-25 Danish Bands And Few German Ones 20 Hours Of Mostly Punk And Hardcore Sounds. Arranged In A Place Called "Huset" With A Public Capacity Of Only 400 People The Festival Was Always Overcrowded As It Was Visited By People From All Over Denmark Germany Norway And Sweden. In The Summer Of 1986 They Recruited A New Drummer Called Dimse And The Band Changed Their Sound Playing Faster Than Ever But Adding What They Described As A "jazzy Touch". War Of Destruction Debuted With The New Line Up At The Now Famous "Ungdomshuset" Squat In Copenhagen In November And In February 1987 They Did One Of Their Best Concerts Ever At The "Huset" In Århus. Seven Tracks From That Gig Are Included On The Recently Released A Touch Of Scandinavia LP Along With More Live And Studio Tracks From '83 To '88 But It's Still Hard To Get As It Was Limited To 500 Copies. The Last Three Years Of The Band Were Spent In The Rehearsal Room Making Weird "thrash" Noise Doing Only About 10-15 Gigs With That Lineup As Punk Seemed To Be Dying In Denmark. Lots Of Plans Were Made For Touring In Different Countries Like Holland Norway England Poland And USA But In The End Nothing Happenned. One Of War Of Destruction's Last Shows Was In Fredericia Denmark In '88 Or '89 Supporting NoMeansNo With The Recording Of This Show Scheduled To Be Released On Vinyl In 2002 On Master Mind Records. The Band Finally Split Up In The Beginning Of '89. A Complete CD Discography Of The Band Should Be Released Soon On An American Label. Taken From The KFTH Page..
