Artist Biography For Thee Unusuals

Thee Unusuals Were A Pacific North West Band From Bellingham Washington Active 1965- 1967. They Evolved Out Of The Bellingham Accents Who Were The Night People Before That. They Recorded Two 45's. 1 Babe It's Me / I'm Walkin' Babe - Panorama Record Label Seattle USA 7" Cat. # 23 1965. 2. Summer Is Over / I Could Go On - 1966 The First Single Received Almost No Air Play But The Flip Side Babe It's Me Done By Kathi And Laurie Vitt Was No. 1 In Bellingham For 26 Weeks Straight. It Never Received National Attention. Between The Recording Of The First And Second 45's The Unusuals Went On The Road As A Back-Up Band For Dewey Martin Prior To His Joining Buffalo Springfield. He Had A Hit At The Time And He And His Band Had Been Billed As British. Eventually Gary Ramsey Replaced Pat Jerns As Drummer For The Unusuals. Gary Ramsey Transformed From Being A Businessman-Type Manager Of A Steak House To A Full Blown Hippie Within About A Year Of Joining The Band. Summer Is Over Was Recorded In San Francisco At The Band's Expense After Which They Returned To Washington. Within A Week The Owner Of The Studio Called And Said That Rene Cardenas Of Time-Mainstream Records Wanted The Song But The Band Would Have To Return To San Francisco And Re-Record It. This Time It Would Be At The Record Company's Expense. The Band Went Back And Were Ready To Go Into The Studio When An Airline Strike Stopped All Commercial Flights. Rene Was Stuck In New York And Had To Buy A Small Jet To Fly To San Francisco. The Band Recorded The Record. At The Same Time Rene Auditioned Several Groups. The Only Two He Picked Up Were The Unusuals And Big Brother And The Holding Company. He Liked The Unusuals' Tapes Better And Released Summer Is Over Within A Month. It Was A 'Four-Star Pick' In Record World And Received Quite A Bit Of National Play. However It Never Really Took Off. The Unusuals Broke Up In 1967. Kathi And Gary Ramsey Left Washington And Headed Back To San Francisco In The Hope Of Joining The Bay Area Music Scene. Kathi Released A Solo Album In 1974 "Insane Asylum". Thee Unusuals Are Featured On Many Garage Rock Compilations Including Highs In The Mid-Sixties And The History Of Northwest Rock Vol 2 - The Garage Years. Personnel VIC BUNDY Keyboards
