The Proto-Primitive Garage Rock Duo Known As The Leather Uppers Was Founded In Toronto Canada By Greg Tymoshenko And Craig Daniels.
Born Out Of The Malaise And Fatigue Brought On By The Post-Metal Pre-Grunge Musical Vacuum Of The Time The Uppers Opted For A Barebones Drums Guitar And Vocal-Based Sound. Their Outrageous 60's/70's-Inspired Matching Stage Costumes Were Clearly As Much At Odds With The "cool" Styles Of The Time As Their Incredibly Energetic Stripped-Down Brand Of "panic Rock" Was. Over The Next Three Years They Would Tour The US And Canada Extensively Expand Briefly To A Three-Piece Release Several 7" Records And One Still-Classic Full-Length Album. Their Groundbreaking "Cut Off Vest" Single Was The First Disc By A Canadian Band On Los Angeles' Influential Sympathy For Record Industry Label.
Fans And Supporters Of The Band Include Such Notable Taste-Makers As Members Of Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet Andrew WK Nardwuar The Human Serviette The Muffs The Sadies The Deadly Snakes And Danko Jones. Vancouver Party Rockers/Uppers Superfans The Smugglers Actually Went As Far As To Cover And Record Uppers Songs As Did Lisa Marr In Her Post Cub Project Buck. In 2002 Their Album "OK Don't Say Hi" Was Re-Released On Austin Texas' Pantsuit City Records. The Reissue Of This Record Led To Three Reunion Shows In The Spring And Summer Of 2003. The Great Response From Fans And The Rejuvenating Effect These Shows Had On The Two Original Members Created The Momentum Necessary To Pick Up Where They Left Off In 1994.
