In 1987 Carlos Santana Jokingly Suggested To Former Weather Report Saxophonist Wayne Shorter That They Spread A Rumor That They Were Putting A Jazz Fusion Band Together. A Few Months Later Shorter And Santana Began A 26-Concert Tour Of The US And Europe. A Recording Of This Band's Performance In Switzerland At The Montreux Jazz Festival On July 14 1988 Was Released On A Dbl CD Collection. The Set List Included Reinterpretations Of Santana Material Like His Grammy Winning Composition Blues For Salvador And Songs From Shorter's Storied Career Like “Sanctuary ” A Tune Which Originally Had Appeared On Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew.. Their Stellar Touring Band Consisted Of Carlos Santana - Guitar Wayne Shorter - Saxophone Chester Thompson - Keyboards Patrice Rushen - Keyboards Alphonso Johnson - Bass Armando Peraza - Congas Jose Chepito Areas - Timbales Leon "Ndugu" Chancler - Drums
