On January 14th 2007 Prominent Bulgarian Rebec Player Atanas Valchev Turned 70. His Talent Is So Indisputable That It Is Enough To Pronounce “rebec Player” In This Country For Everyone To Link It With His Name. He Is A Virtuoso Musician Called By Famous Bulgarian Composer Krassimir Kyurkchiiski “Paganini Of The Rebec”. There Are Many Master Players Of This Truly Bulgarian Instrument But Atanas Vulchev Is Unique Famous For His Impression And Charm – He Does Not Simply Play He Disperses Magic Sounds People Say. He Was Born In The Village Of Zavetno Near The City Of Targovishte In North Eastern Bulgaria In The Family Of Migrants From The Northern Aegean Coast. In 1952 Not 16 Yet He Became Member Of The Folk Music Orchestra Of The Bulgarian National Radio And Its Concert Master. He Heads His Own Group Of Authentic Folklore Makes New Arrangements On The Basis Of Folk Music Creates New Instruments And Expands The Idea Of The Abilities Of The Rebec As A Music Instrument. He Received A Gold Medal At The Ninth World Youth Festival First Prize At The Folk Music Competition In Tunisia In 1971 The “Golden Baton” Medal At The Radio Competition In Bratrislava. Filip Koutev The World Famous Art Director Of The State Folk Ensemble In Sofia Invited Him Personally To Join His Orchestra For Its First Tour Of The USA. Later On He Traveled Played And Won Recognition In Dozens Of Countries Around The World With The “Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices” Choir. Luckily His Daughter Elka Has Become An Excellent Violinist Playing With The Verve Of Her Father Following In His Steps As A Musician. The Biggest Award For Rebec Player Atanas Vulchev Is The Love Of The Bulgarian Audience And Of His Students Who Adore Him. read less
