Frogtoon Music - Song Info: Devil for the Fire

Brandon Hagen On The Vundabar Instagram "The Beginnings Of Devil For The Fire Came About As I Was Binge Watching Film Noir. The Subconscious And Subconscious Fear Is A Big Theme In A Lot Of Film Noir So I Had That On The Mind - Sequences Of Abstract And Surreal Images To Convey An Innerworld And Whatnot. I Was Drawn To The Shadow And Smoke Heavy Visuals In A Lot Of Those Films The Whole World They Take Place In Kind Of Has Its Own Dream Logic And A Hallucinatory Aspect - Things Shift Continually. I Was Also Burning Through Books On Neuroplasticity - I Have Two Psychologists For Roommates So I'd Often Pick Up What They'd Left Around The House. Neuroplasticity Is Essentially A Science That Attests To The Human Capacity For Change And The Mind's Elasticity. Everything We Do Can Rewire Our Brain The Possibility For Something New Is Always There Things Shift Continually. This Was A Solace In The Midst Of Early Covid When It Was Easy To Lose That Perspective And Our Worlds Became Small. Shortly After Reading This Starting To Apply It To My Own Life And Conceptually Wrangling It For This Album The Concept Turned Literal. My Dad Had A Life Threatening Emergency Heart Surgery And A Subsequent Stroke That Led To Global Aphasia And Required Him To Relearn Most Everything. He Would Spend The Next Year Taking Steps To Rewire His Brain And Regain His Ability To Walk Eat Speak And Write. I Participated And Watched As He Undertook The Journey To Rewrite His Mind And I Saw In Real Time A Testament To That Human Potential For Growth And Change. I Finished Writing And Recording This Song With The Band In Between Visits To The Hospital Before We Knew Whether He Would Survive Or Not. The Entire Thing Was Surreal The Hospitals In The Age Of Covid The Looming Spectre Of Death Hanging Over Us The Bizarre Timing Of His Accident With What I'd Been Reading And Writing And Going To Work While It Felt Like Something Was Shattering. This Song Feels Very Much Charged With These Events And When I Listen To It I Feel Far Away From It - Which Is Good - Happily Things Are Going Much Better My Dad Continues To Inspire Me To Change And Grow And Still Things Shift Continually."
