Artist Biography For Shayna Zaid & The Catch

Shayna Zaid & The Catch's Musical Adventure Began In 2003 When Shayna Met Joel Dean Guitarist And Producer For The Catch At Berklee College Of Music In Boston. The Two Began By Working On Class Projects Together Writing In An Array Of Styles From Jazz Pop To Hip-Hop / R&B. After Graduating In 2005 The Duo Made Their Way To NYC To Begin A Career That Started With The Release Of Beyond Borders In 2006. This Album Went On To License 8 Songs To CBS's "The Young & The Restless" A #1 Single On Malaysia's X-Fresh FM And Continues To Generate Buzz On ITunes And Amazon. The 2nd Release From The Pair Was 2007's "Half A World Away" That Was Released In Shayna's Home Country Of Malaysia. The Album Was Distributed In Stores And Created Widespread Exposure In The Region. Shayna Was Featured In Many Mainstream Publications Such As Cosmopolitan-Malaysia KLUE Star Magazine As Well As Several Prime-Time Talk Shows And Radio Programs. The Album Generated 3 #1 Songs On 3 Different Formats And Had Shayna Sharing The Stage With Harry Connick Jr Raul Midon And The Roots At Singapore's Mosaic Music Festival In 2008. The Success Of The Album Also Helped Shayna Become Nominated For 3 ERA Awards. The Third Chapter Of Their Musical Journey Begins In Late 2007 With The Recording Of "It's You". This Beautiful Heartfelt Ballad Was A Major Turn In Musical Direction And Captured Listeners Unlike Any Song They've Written. This Departure From Pop / R&B Towards A More Sophisticated Singer-Songwriter / Folk Sound Was Like A Musical Re-Birth For Shayna And Joel. Now Focused On Making Intimate Lyrical And Expressive Live Music The Two Went On A Search For The Perfect Musical Soul Mates. The Stars Were Aligned And After Some Trial And Error The Band Came Together In Mid-2008. The First To Join The New Group Was The Versatile And Always Tasteful Drummer Christopher Heinz. His Incredible Talents As A Drummer Composer And Band Leader Was The Perfect Addition. The New York Native Heinz Has Toured And Recorded With Reggae Legend Banky Banx Root Valdez QB3 Peter Fish And Many Others. As A Composer He Has Scored Music For MSNBC And Amnesty International. Next To Join The Group Was Violin Virtuoso Yan Izquierdo. A Truly Global Citizen Yan Was Born In Havana Cuba And Has Lived In Russia Spain And Finally New York City. His Travels Around The World Have Greatly Influenced His Playing He Has Shared The Stage With Such Giants Of Classical Music As Yo Yo Ma Leonard Slatkin Hilary Hahn Gil Shaham As Well As Pop And Country Greats Like Clay Aiken Ricky Skaggs And Anne Murray. With A Brand New Self-Titled EP Under Their Belts An Extensive College Circuit Tour And Radio Ad Campaign This Fall 2009 Having Shared The Stage With Both Well-Known And New Up-And-Coming Bands From Across The U.S. Recently At Summerfest MidPoint Music Festival Dewey Beach MEANY Fest And Soon Decibelle CMJ And SxSW - Shayna Zaid & The Catch Are Ones To Watch.
