MONKEYKNIFEFIGHT Is A Four-Piece Band Out Of Wilmington N.C. They Definitely Have A Lot Of Punk Influence But Mix It Up With Some Metal Rock Comedy Acoustic And Even Hip-Hop! They Try To Change Their Set Up Little Each Show Giving The Audience Something Unexpected. Sometimes Giving Out Free Giveaways At Some Shows Or Even Doing Some Themed Shows Such As Birthday Parties Proms House Shows Etc. They Even Have Characters That Get Mentioned In Some Of Their Songs That Come Out On Stage During Some Of Their Sets. Friends And Fans Of The Band Will Put On The Costumes And Rock Out For A Free Bar Tab. Some Of The Characters Are Rape Ape The Junkie Monkey Uncle Leonard And Harry The Hippie Killer! The Band Also Has A Nice Selection Of Cover Songs That They Would Breakout During Their Set Depending On What Type Of Crowd They're Playing For. Some Of The Artists They Like To Cover Are Billy Idol Styx Suicidal Tendencies Black Flag Bill Withers Guttermouth Slayer Poison And Cheap Trick To Name A Few.
You Really Don't Know What To Expect At A Monkeyknifefight Show. The Band Has A Really Strong Sense Of Humor And Kind Of Expects Their Fans To Do The Same. Sometimes They Kind Of Push The Limits A Little Bit But It’s To Be Expected! Most Of The Members All Grew Up Together And Have Known Each Other For About 15 Years And Know How To Put Up With Each Other’s Shit. The Band Originally Formed In 2001 With Members Josh Pearson On Guitar And Charlie Smith On Drums. After Playing Together For A Couple Of Years They Decided To Take A Break And Move On To Other Projects. Smith Then Filled In On Drums/vocals With Southern Rock/punk Band Known As MINDFIELD. After Recording A Couple Of Albums And Doing Some Touring Mindfield Ran Into Some Issues With Guitar Players And The Name Mindfield Itself. The Band Went On To Finding A New Guitarists And Changing Their Name To REASON TO IGNITE. They Would Continue Touring And Recording Some Albums Through 2008. Then RTI Decided To Take A Break But Still Get Together To Do Some Shows Every Now And Then.
While Smith Was Doing Those Projects Pearson Was Still Involved With Playing Himself. After Jamming Out With Some Different Guys Here And There They Formed Together A Project Called MIDDLESOUND. Middlesound Played Together For A Couple Of Years But After Some Changes In The Lineup And One Of The Members Moving Away They Decided To Take A Break From Playing.
In Early 2007 Smith And Longtime Friend Jaybee Bratz Who Was A Member Of Middlesound With Pearson Got To Talking About Starting A Project Up Or Better Yet Let’s Recreate MONKEYKNIFEFIGHT! Smith And Bratz Then Contacted Pearson And MONKEYKNIFEFIGHT Was Back On The Scene In No Time. The Band Brought Back Some Of Their Old Songs But Took No Time Working On Some New Ones. They Switched The Lineup Around Too. Pearson Was Playing Guitar When They First Started In '01 But Now Playing Bass And Jaybee On Guitar/vocals And Smith Drums/vocals.
The Band Would Spend Most Of 2007 And 2008 As A Three-Piece But Would Later Add A Second Guitarist To The Lineup. With A Second Guitarist Jaybee Could Focus A Little More On His Leads And Singing. They Then Approached Dave Ware About Joining The Band. Ware Had Played In Few Different Metal Bands Around Town And Has A Unique Style Of Playing And Writing That Would Give The Band That Punch And Drive That They Are Looking For. Now With A Four-Piece Lineup MONKEYKNIFEFIGHT Would Continue On To Doing Some Shows In And Out Of Town And Going Into The Studio To Record Their Debut Album "THE FILTH AND THE FURRY". With The Album Almost Done Pearson Had To Approach His Bandmates With News That He Couldn't Continue Playing With Them Anymore. He Had To Take Some Time Off From Doing The Band And Focus On His Family Which Is Understandable. Now Putting The Album’s Release On Hold MONKEYKNIFEFIGHT Was On A Hunt For A New Bass Player. That's When They Came Across Mitch Jones. Smith Bratz And Pearson Were All Longtime Friends With Jones And They Figured Why Try Someone Out For The Band That They Might Not Get Along With Down The Road. Let’s Bring In Someone That They Know And Could Get Along With And Bring Some Positive Energy To The Band. With Jones Stepping In On Bass The Lineup Now Is Jaybee Bratz AKA "JOHNNY BONOBO" Guitar/lead Vocals Charlie Smith AKA "MOOSECOCK JONES" Drums/lead Vocals Dave Ware AKA "JUST DAVE" Guitar/backup Vocals & Mitch Jones AKA "DR.
