Artist Biography For Babak Nemati Quartet

The Babak Nemati Quartet Consists Of Openminded Experienced And Highly Experimental Modern Jazz Musicians From Switzerland Spain And Iran. Shortly After The Group Was Founded In Early 2011 By Persian Leader And Guitarist Babak Nemati In Zurich Switzerland The Four Dedicated Members Found Themselves Locked In A Recording Studio Creating Their First Album With Seven Original Compositions. By September 2012 Seven Good Wishes Had Made Its Way Into The Catalogue Of The Swiss Jazz Label Altrisuoni.
Shortly Thereafter The Quartet Consisting Of Babak Nemati Guitar Carles Peris Saxes Flutes Beat Gisler Electric Bass And Olaf Ryter Drums Embarked On A Successful Onandoff Club Tour Across Western Europe Which Lasted Until Spring 2014 To Promote The Album. - Babak Nemati Was Born In 1976 In Tehran Iran. At The Age Of 8 He Moved To Switzerland With His Family And Upon Turning 14 Took Up The Guitar. Having Initially Taught Himself Babak Started To Take Classical Guitar Lessons And Subsequently Began To Explore Different Musical Styles Such As Blues Rock Funk And Pop. His Main Influences Were Jimi Hendrix Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd And James Brown. After Gaining Some Experience With School Bands He Founded His Own Ensembles. Recognising That Music Played An Extremely Important Role In His Life Babak Nemati Decided To Study Music. At Music College He Became Involved In Jazz And Emusic
and Was Influenced By Various Artists Such As Miles Davis John Coltrane Charlie Parker Keith Jarrett Chick Corea Pat Metheny John Scofield And Mike Stern. A Graduate Of WIAM Winterthurer Institut Für Aktuelle Musik He Currently Performs In Several Bands And Studio Projects Though His Biggest Passion Are His Own Two Jazz Ensembles The Babak Nemati Trio And The Babak Nemati Quartet.

and "scruffy" Sounds To The Stage. His Musical Career Began In Barcelona’s Jazz Scene. An Openminded
artist He Soon Became Involved In Many Different Ensembles And Projects Among Them The Babak Nemati Quartet Radar Suzuki Open Mind Memory Testers 3 Wheel Drive Swiss Improvisers Orchestra And Others.
- Fridolin Blumer Double Bass *1984 CH/FL Is A Bassplayer. As An Improviser And Performer He Is Often On Stage And Plays Topical And New Music. At The Age Of Eight He Began Playing The Cello And Switched To Bass At Age 15. Since 1999 He Explores The Musical Tradition The Acoustic Events Of Today And The Related Way Of Playing The Bass. From 2003 To 2008 He Studied At The Music Academy Of Basel Jazz Department. Major Inspirations Are The Black American Music European Classical Music And Various Folk Musics. Fridolin Blumer Is Living In Zurich Switzerland.
- Olaf Ryter Drums Began Playing The Drums Aged 12 And Cofounded The Fusion Band “apple Juice” In 1998. He Joined The Burhan Öçal Group In 1990 And In 1992 Became A Member Of The Blues Band "back To The Roots" Undertaking Numerous Performances Throughout Switzerland Plus A CD Production. In 1994 Ryter Began Studying At The Zurich Jazz School Complemented With Private Lessons And Master Classes With Internationally Renowned Musicians. Between 2001 And 2005 He Studied At The Jazz School St. Gallen Graduating With A Diploma From The Swiss Music Pedagogical Association SMPV. He Currently Works As A Drum Teacher And Sound Engineer With Regular Performances And CD Recordings In Switzerland And Abroad. He Is A Member Of The Babak Nemati Quartet 3 Wheel Drive And Lurking Loops Amongst Others.
