Artist Biography For Asking Directions To Nowhere
Asking Directions To Nowhere Started As An Idea Formed By Three Kids Pat Gilson Eric VanKoughnett And Alex Barnier Back In Grade Six They All Decided Upon Instruments Made A Vow To Learn How To Play Them And Swore To One Day Form A Band That Would Help Them Pick Up Attractive Girlfriends. Skipping Forward To The Year 2008 When All Band Members Had Just Entered High School And Finally Started Learning Their Instruments—Gilson On Lead Vocals And Rhythm Guitar Barnier On Bass And VanKoughnett On Drums—the Band Officially Formed Under The Flag Of Asking Directions To Nowhere. It Was The Group’s Love Of The Ramones That Drew Them To Play Shows Before They Even Knew How To Use Their Instruments And It Was This Same Love That Led Them To Undertake Songwriting At An Early Age. Pat Gilson Took On The Immense Pressure Of Being The Chief Writer For The Group At First Following A Similar Formula To That Of The Ramones However Gilson Soon Realized That The Formula He Thought Would Be So Easy To Master Was Impossible To Replicate And Instead Took To Writing From His Heart And Letting The Music Just Come Out Whether It Was “punk Enough” Or Not. In 2010 The Band Saw The Addition Of Lead Guitarist And Backup Vocalist Marko Cindric And The Replacement Of The Group’s Former Drummer With New Member Kirk Mather. Both Changes Led To Drastic Improvements In ADTN’s Overall Sound. By 2011 The Band Had Kicked Into Full Gear With A Sizeable Catalogue Of Original Songs And An Ever-Improving Live Show And Gilson And Cindric’s Vocal Harmonization Being A Highlight Of The New Lineup. 2012 Marked The Year That The Band Went Into The Studio To Begin Recording Their Debut Album Too Soon Too Late And Also Saw The Loss Of Members Barnier And Mather Due To Band Conflict. 2013 Has Been A Quiet Year For Asking Directions To Nowhere With The Remaining Two Members Away At College But They Are Still Trying To Put Out Their First Record And Are Looking To Play Shows When They Return To Their Hometown Of St. Thomas Ontario For The Summer Break.
